Come learn the Chinese ribbon dance! Margaret Yuen, Director of the Red Silk Dancers will demonstrate the dance and show you how to wave a long silk ribbon to create rainbows, dragons and waterfalls. The dancers swirl and spin a long silk banner in the air while they leap and turn across the stage, creating images of cascading waterfalls, flying dragons, crashing ocean waves, and flowing rivers.
This class will begin with learning basic Chinese classical and folk dance steps and techniques of manipulating a 'ribbon' held in one hand. Then we will combine them to create short dances that will be both elegant and vigorous. Wednesdays, 9:30 am - 10:45 am Manny Cantor Center, 5th Floor 197 East Broadway (646) 395-4280 Funded by the Department for the Aging, this class is free for adults 60 and over. Interested participants should sign up for free membership to the Weinberg Center for Balanced Living. For adults ages 55 - 59, annual membership is $90.
