Ribbon Dancing: 10:30 am - 11:30 am
The Red Silk Dancers welcomed the Year of the Ox at Bryant Park's Lunar New Year celebration. Margaret Yuen, Director of the Red Silk Dancers, gave a free class on Chinese Ribbon Dancing. Other performances and activities included a lion dance, skating sessions, and making wishes on the wishing trees.

Wednesday, February 17, 2021 Ribbon Dancing: 10:30 am - 11:30 am Margaret Yuen, Director of Red Silk Dancers, will be teaching Chinese dance weekly in three outdoor locations: Bryant Park, Herald Square and Seward Park.
This class is offered by ALESN (Asian Language Exchange & Social Network) under YMCA’s Beacon Program serving families in the community.
Instructor: Margaret Yuen, Director of Red Silk Dancers Site: Basement dance studio of Middle School 131 at 100 Hester St, Chinatown, Manhattan Dates: Fridays, February 7 - June 12 Times: 6:00 to 7:00 pm for beginners 7:00 to 8:00 pm for advanced students 8:00 to 9:00 pm - company rehearsal Fee: None No dance experience is required. Please wear comfortable and flexible shoes, ballet slippers, dance shoes, or go barefoot. Please note that video recording of the class is not permitted. Important note: On the first day, please arrive earlier with your ID, fill out the form for free membership and obtain a card for future admission at the YMCA office located in the basement. Tell them you’re there to attend a ALESN class. Membership cards are valid for the current academic year. Students who attended ALESN classes and/or this Chinese dance class in a previous year will need to complete a new application and obtain a card for this year. Combine cardio with artistry as you wave long ribbons in the air to create rainbows, waterfalls, dragons and ocean waves. Ribbon Dancing is as visually stunning as it is fun and easy to learn! All ages and skill levels are welcome. Classes will take place on Thursday afternoons in the heated space of the Overlook and feature music to set the tone. Classes will be taught by Margaret Yuen from Red Silk Dancers. Please note that video recording of the class is not permitted.
